As a former city councilor it was my privilege to be actively involved in issues dealing with our cityˇ¦s recreation services. Over the years we have strived to improve our facilities and the activities we offer. The merger/demerger process brought with it many challenges. While some local services, such as the Teeter Tots and Park camps have had their issues, we have co-operated well in the area of pools and tennis. The cities of Hampstead/ Cote Saint Luc and Montreal West can only benefit from a continued partnership in these areas.
As a reconstituted city, Cote Saint Luc will once again have eight councilors and a Mayor and the ability to have hands on involvement by the elected officials in the daily operations, which has been particularly useful in the area of recreation.
We must bring back our sports camp which we once operated from the Wagar High School facility. Now that Wagar will be used for adult education, the facility with itˇ¦s large grounds is the perfect location for the re-institution of the Sports Camp.
The construction of our gym was a first step toward our goal to have a comprehensive recreation complex, with an indoor pool, and activity rooms to permanently house our Seniors Social/ Seniorˇ¦s Menˇ¦s and Ladies clubs as well as provide activity rooms for our youth and teens.
In order to reach our objective, we must obtain corporate sponsorship and work together with the public/private sector to build the kind of facility our residents deserve. We will improve our Teetor Tots nursery program to pre-merger levels, promote all our special activities and events such as the ski program, arts programs and many others to insure their vitality.
As a group of hands on representatives in a small community we will once again thrive and insure the maintenance of our parks, arena, pool, library and all facilities as we will once again have the right to collect taxes to use to the benefit of our residents.
