FALL 2000 NEWSLETTER
Mitchell Brownstein District 7.
In my first term as City Councillor after visiting Warsaw, Poland to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, the City of
Cote Saint Luc held a special memorial for this purpose and named the
cresent off Korzak in honor of the leader of the uprising, Mordechai
Aneilevitcz. It is personally rewarding to now,
see the beautiful homes being built on Yad Mordechai. I welcome the new
residents who have chosen to make this cresent such a beautiful place to
live and whose presence will be a continued tribute to those honorable
heros who perished during the holocaust.
Continued development in Cote Saint Luc including, town houses, single
family homes, and condominiums is a clear indication that our city is
considered to be a great place to live. Increased populations require
increased services including, recreational, religious and other. In this
light it is my firm commitment to work toward the construction of a
recreational center with an indoor swimming pool, gym, and meeting rooms
for youth and seniors. I will continue to welcome religious institutions to
our city and work towards finding them a place where they can service members
of our community and encourage others to move into the new developments being
built close to these new institutions. If Cote Saint Luc is to continue to
florish we must recognize the changing demographics of our community and
welcome the requests for religious institutions that will service these
communities. If we do not recognize this necessity our city will not grow
in the manner that we most certainly wish. A vibrant community requires
young families to chose it as their home. Recreational facilities, schools
and religious institutions are the foundation of such a community.
As an resident of Cote Saint Luc who lives immediately adjacent to the Beth
Israel Beth Aaron Synagogue I can personnally attest to the joy I
experience when I see a Bar Mitzvah boy leaving synagogue with his proud parents on
Saturday afternoon, or a bride and groom taking pictures on the front lawn
on a Sunday night or the entire congregation dancing in the street on
Simcha Torah. This vibrance makes our city special.
On another note, I would like to congratulate the Cote Saint Luc Pool
Management and staff as well as the recreation department for outdoing
themselves this year on fun weekend. Total Entertainment had everyone
dancing on the deck and in the pool. The games were great and fun was had
by all.
Your input is vital and I have enjoyed hearing from so many of you over the
years. I look forward to continuing our special relationship. Please call
me any time at 939-9559 ext 202 or email me at brownstein@videotron.ca.
