Nashen,
Brownstein & Kovac Elected
Acclaimed Demerger Leaders
Focus on Electing Housefather
Cote
Saint-Luc, October 15, 2005: Three of four Cote Saint-Luc Demerger
Leaders, Glenn J. Nashen, Mitchell Brownstein and Ruth Kovac were elected by
acclamation yesterday to a fourth term on City Council. The three former
councillors will return as their demerging city frees itself from the City of
Montreal. All three lead the Cote
Saint-Luc Demerger movement along with borough councillor and mayoral candidate
Anthony Housefather.
"What a magnificent honour to receive this overwhelming
approval by our constituents," Nashen said. "Ruth, Mitchell and I have received unprecedented support
from the residents we visited during our door-to-door as well as from community
leadership. Now we will work hard to elect Housefather, a dynamic,
progressive and visionary leader for the future of Cote Saint-Luc.”
“It has been an honour to serve on council and we
are thrilled to be returning to help re-build our great community," Brownstein said. "The four of us worked so hard on
leading our community out of the megacity and now we’ll redouble our efforts to
get Anthony elected and get things working efficiently as quickly as possible,” he
added.
“We are so pleased
that the community has recognized our efforts in returning the three of us in
such a decisive manner, Kovac said.
“All our efforts are to improve our City and quality of life. This is our passion and we are delighted to
be able to serve in this way. Cote Saint-Luc is now at a pivotal point in its
history and has a chance to set the course for future generations.”
Nashen, Brownstein
and Kovac, together with Housefather, plan to make emergency services a top
priority and will fight to preserve the EMS, return the library to its state of
excellence, support the public works team as it returns to local control and
re-establishes a high level of service in maintaining parks, streets and
facilities. Augmenting services to
attract young families will be given attention, as will services for
seniors. A harmonious relationship with
all neighbouring communities is also a priority as the three indicated it is
time for their city to turn a new leaf in building strong, cooperative bonds
with its neighbours.
