On behalf of the Government of Canada, I am pleased to invite you to participate in Canada Trade Mission I will be leading to India from October 7-12, 2001.
As the world's 11th largest economy and 4th ranked in term of purchasing power parity, India represent an important market for Canadian goods and Services. India presents very promising opportunities in a variety of sectors, especially information technology and telecommunication, energy, transportation and infrastructure , and the environment.
Canada's decision to re-engage with India has come at an opportune time. India's gross domestic product has grown more than 30 % over the past five years while our exports to India grew an impressive 20% during 2000 and have already increased 45 % in the first five months of this year alone. India is also a recipient financial institution such as the world bank and the Asian Development Bank.
The mission will visit two of India's most influential business centres: New Delhi and Mumbai ( formerly Bombay). In each city there will be a tailored business programme consisting of seminars and workshops, hospitality events and networking opportunities designed to introduced you to local government decision-makers, local business leader, as well as Canadian business leaders active in the region with experience to share. A Canadian Delegation Office, located in the designated mission hotels, will serve as a focal point for disseminating logistical information about the mission and will be equipped with Internet-ready computers for your use.
This mission is an excellent opportunity to introduce you to the vibrant Indian market while promoting Canadian product, services and technologies. Your participation as a member of business delegation will also allow you the opportunity to strengthen local business partnership, meet new cleits, enhance your overall visibly in this country and bring business agreements to fruition.
