Côte St. Luc councillor Mitchell Brownstein's immigration law firm is among about 160 companies joining Premier Lucien Bouchard's trade mission to China from Nov. 1-12.

The mission will visit Beijing, Shenyeng and Shanghai.

Brownstein, Brownstein and Associates will be represented by Mr. Brownstein's brother Herbert, who is on the Canadian Bar Association executive, Quebec region, immigration section of overseas office coordinator. The firm has already participated in three Team Canada missions.

"The Team Canada trade missions have been particularly successful in stimulating business in Canada and in assisting Canadian business people in their efforts to expand overseas," Mitchell Brownstein said. "Premier Bouchard joined all the other premiers from the other provinces across Canada on the most recent Team Canada mission and felt that it was so successful for Quebec business promotion that he is leading his own delegation.

"China's modernization has resulted in it becoming an excellent country for joint ventures with Canadian businesses," the councillor added. "Our clients wish to sell their technology, products and open franchises in China."

For his own part, Herbert Brownstein will be meeting with people interested in immigration to Canada as investors, businesspeople or independents. He will also be holding seminars on trade with and immigration to Canada.


Several local companies will be included in an economic and commercial mission Premier Lucien Bouchard is leading to China from Nov. 1-12.

The mission will visit Beijing and other areas to meet political officials and Chinese entrepreneurs, tour several industries and engage in seminars. The participating companies are in the agricultural , construction, energy, environmental, telecommunications, information technology, pulp and paper, mines and resources, transport and finance industries.

Participating local companies include St. Laurent energy company Asea Brown Boveri; Brownstein and Brownstein, co-owned by Côte St. Luc councillor and immigration lawyer Mitchell Brownstein; St.Laurent's CAE Electronics; Dorval-based Canadian Airlines; Dollard des Ormeaux's Harris Farinon Canada; St. Laurent's Protection Incendie Polygon; St. Anne de Bellevue's SPAR Aerospace; St. Laurent's Thermo Black Clawson Canada Ltd; and Pointe Claire's WTH Systems.
