OVERSEAS JOBS EXPRESS--MARCH 1997

FAMILY BUSINESS SPONSORSHIP IN CANADA

You can emigrate to Canada under the Family Business Sponsorship programme if the family business in Canada is owned by a father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, niece, nephew, grandson or grand-daughter.

Canada Manpower will assess whether the job offer is secure and if the wages and working conditions are competitive to the industry. The general rule is that the business which is making the sponsorship must have been in operation for at least a year.

Applications where family sponsorships are generally approved must show special need for a position of trust. In addition, the applicant must be able to show competence in his abilities to fulfil the position.

Family Business applications have been used to assist individuals in expanding their business in Canada as well as assisting in ensuring a younger generation take over from relatives ready to retire.

Once the job offer has been approved by the Canada Manpower offices in Canada, notification is sent to the embassy or consulate abroad where the individual may submit their application to be assessed by an immigration officer at that post.
