Councillor plays Place des Arts
Cote St. Luc councillor Mitchell Brownstein will be wearing his actor's hat Tuesday Feb. 25, when he will play a Japanese gentleman in the Tifereth Beth David Jerusalem play Majority of One at Place des Arts.
Mr. Brownstein, an immigration lawyer who recently spent four hours at Japan's Osaka Airport when returning from the Team Canada mission to Asia, has been involved in acting since age nine, and performed in several plays while at Vanier College and McGill University, as well as on TV and the big screen. The most notable TV appearance was a caroller with Dr. Kildare's Richard Chamberlain in the 1970's special Legend of the Christmas Messenger.
In the current play, Majority of One - a fundraiser for the synagogue - his character, Mr. Asano, meets a Jewish widow (Linda Grossman) on a cruise ship to Japan. Her children believe she is bigoted, but she turns out to be more open minded than them. The play takes place in the 1950's.
